[News] Sony PS3 Network Shuts Down After Being Hacked

Well isn't this interesting. And coming only weeks after that court debacle with the one and only Geohot who first Jailbroke the Iphone and then the PS3 to allow homebrew Apps and Burning Games. Coincidence? I think not. I give this person  responsible a chest bump for this most definite. I hate the PS3 and will never buy one. Now onto the story...

The Sony PlayStation network down news for PS3 and Qriocity players is sobering. The network has been down for several days following an "external intrusion" a.k.a. hacker attack. Sadly, the PSN will be down longer while more security is put in place.

It qualifies as a WTF moment in the world of video-gaming for many PS3 players when a surprise maintenance page popped up when subscribers tried to sign into the PSN.

The Sony PlayStation network down debacle has scarred the company that has been free from outages. Word soon came that the coveted system was hacked, blocking co-op players from getting online.

The service providers responsible for the network outage issue released a statement that said: "Our efforts to resolve this matter involve re-building our system to further strengthen our network infrastructure."

However, the main information gamers wanted to hear about the time needed to get the system back online was not mentioned in the statement on the website.

Sony has been tight-lipped about issuing a restoration date of the network, but an insider close to the hacked incident says that Europe and the U.S. should be able to access co-op play by Tuesday following Easter.

Perhaps the lemonade will be made out of the lemons the Sony PlayStation network down situation has caused. The company insists that it is shoring up its security to prevent future outages of this sort.

From a company perspective, added security protocols is not a bad thing. But to PS3 co-op players, that time can't come soon enough.
